Rufous-headed hornbill (KALAW)
The Rufous-headed Hornbill with a corresponding scientific name of Aceros waldeni is locally known as kalaw lives in evergreen and closed-canoy forests in the 11 islands namely: Biliran, Bohol, Buad, Calico-an, Dinagat, Leyte, Luzon, Marinduque, Mindanao, Samar, and Siargao. The male hornbill is remarkably seen as the one having rufous head, neck and upper breast. The female hornbill has black head, white bare orbital and skin with a reflection of color blue, and black underparts and smaller casque. This bird manifests a loud, deep, short, quavering or warbling sound that is repeated regularly. It is omnivorous for it feeds on both meat of an animal even a decaying flesh and a fruit like berry. It is also impermanently inhabiting in a single place for it moves from one area to another depending on the accessibility of food resources. Unfortunately, just like the case of other creatures, this living organism is also a victim of poaching or the illegal killing or capturing of an animal which is also one of the main factors of the decrease on Rufous-headed Hornbill's population that's why it's included in the list of International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN)with a declaration that it's close to extinction.
