Calamian Deer


The calamian deer with a scientic name of Axis calamianensis is locally found Calamian Group of Islands which are situated in the northern tip of Palawan, Philippines.It is commonly termed as "usa" and it belongs to the kingdom Animalia.It is an inhabitant of grassland and woodland that's why it is a herbivore that eats fallen flowers or fruits and plants with little or no woody tissue. On the other hand, the population of calamian deer is already declining it is due to the malpractices of people including hunting, kaingin and slash & burn system of deforestation. Unfotunately, this living creature is a common subject for hunting among hunters because many products are made out of antles which are in demand in the market and can sustain their daily basic necessities in life. At this point, the estimated number of calamian deer is almost 900 as listed in International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN).
